26.6.08 ( 1:27 PM ) Tan Li Wen 14.6.08 ( 6:00 PM ) Tan Li Wen It might never occur to me that I might do well for the climb. Although by doing enough training session, I knew climbing the mountain is not going to be piece of cake because of my weak lungs :< Two days climb, 6-7 june First day After we got up at 7.00am, ate a hearty breakfast and set off at 7.45am. A lot of the details are lost while climbing up but I remember the melted snickers bar that were messy to eat but it perk us up a lot and was glad that I saw the every hut {resting place} I see. Fell down twice, once was tripping over the tree trunk and the other was the person in front of me accidentally fell down, at the point, I had no nothing to hold on and fell, luckily Mervin was behind me and held on to me. Yadayada, more rocks along the way, Yay. Reached laban rata at around 3.30 pm. Dinner at 5, Slept at 7 pm. Second day We woke up at around 1am the next day and set off early at 1.30 am. The air pressure was very low, and had difficulty in breathing but I shove it off aside… Well the detail memories that remain are the last 200m of the track….. Endless route I tell ya. My body was desperately low on calories and I was struggling to keep on going. Up until this point I’d never been tested, especially in such physical way. I kept go on, finding a way to put one foot in front of the other. I have to say a simple thank you to this Malaysian guide named Donnie who held my hand and encourage me all the way up. Went down immediately without doing via ferrata and took me another 3 and a half hour to descend down to laban rata hut to rest. Reached about 10 am., slept all the way till 1 pm. Left the laban rata hut at 1.30pm. Getting up was shaky, but down I came. This time I couldn’t coordinate my legs to get moving. But I keep thinking the end is near, whereas it is not (!) Half of the descending, there was this mudslide, Mr Koh hesitate for awhile before crossing over, haha. Many many thanks to soon kwang for guiding us along. Estimated time of reaching was 5pm, but I got there at 6pm because of the slight rain that got me and others to take each step slowly in fear of slipping down.
